1863-S 10C AU58 PCGS. Fortin-101. While the '63-S
1863-S<10C> AU58 PCGS. Fortin-101. While the '63-S is very tough above VF, it is actually elusive in all grades. Our records show that, since 1973, the 1863-S has made 17 auction appearances in grades Good 4 through MS66 in major sales. Similarly, as of March 2005, PCGS has certified only 14 pieces in all grades. This specimen is well defined on the design elements, save for a touch of softness in the wheat kernels on the upper lift (facing) portion of the wreath. The silver-gray surfaces display just a hint of russet color, and luster in the recessed areas. The surfaces are remarkably clean, exhibiting just a couple of minute handling marks in the lower right (facing) obverse quadrant. This is a rare opportunity for the Seated dime specialist. Population: 1 in 58, 6 finer (3/05).
From The Tim Cook Collection of Liberty Seated Dimes.
