1863 S$1 Dollar, Judd-346, Pollock-418, R.7, PR63 Red and Brown. The regular design type used for silver dollars beginning in 1866 when the motto IN GOD WE TRUST was added above the eagle. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. Perhaps deserving of a High R.7 rating, at most only 6-7 pieces are believed known of this rare pattern. Much of the original red luster still survives on each side with a light overlay of bluish-brown patina present as well. There are no obvious specks of carbon on either side of this attractive and rarely encountered pattern.Ex:1975 ANA Sale (Superior, 8/75), lot 1258; Fairfield Collection (Bowers and Ruddy, 10/77), lot 29. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment.
