With a razor-sharp strike and warm, pinkish-tan color, this Gem comes highly recommended for the quality-conscious buyer.<BR><BR>Along with the 1862, the 1863 is the most frequently encountered Proof in the short-lived copper-nickel, oak wreath and shield Indian cent series of 1860-1864. This results in unflagging demand for surviving examples among type collectors, and the Proof 1863 a long tradition as a strong performer in the numismatic market.<BR><BR>The Cent type produced from 1860 through early 1864 is distinguished from its counterparts in the Indian series by an oak wreath with shield reverse motif coupled with a composition of 88% copper, 12% nickel. Proofs of this type were struck all years from 1860 through 1864, and examples are generally obtainable in most grades. At the finest level s of preservation, however, and particularly when linked with a Cameo or Deep Cameo designation, proof Copper-Nickel Cents are conditionally scarce &#40;if not rare&#41; coins that represent important buying opportunities when they appear in the market.
