This is a collection of items from a private collector that dug these items directly from Fort Abererombie and were from the Sioux battle. This includes 14 Sioux arrowheads from 1863, 2 US cartridges, a horse shoe, two spikes, and a US Army brass button. The top reads, "Fort Abererombie D.T. May 1st 1863 in CommanD of Lieut. Col. F. Peteler U.S.S.S." In August 1862 its defenses were tested. When increasing Indian activity byreconnaissance parties, drove nearby settlers into the fort's stockade. The Sioux, besieged Fort Abercrombie for almost six weeks, alternating between occasional sniping and all-out attacks on all foursides of the fort. The garrison and settlers with rifles, shotguns, and howitzers held the fort. This collection is displayed well and a great rare piece. Frame measures 12.5"x16.5" and the largest arrowheads are1.75"
