1863 50C PR65 NGC. With the extensive meltings of silver and gold coins during the Civil War, an otherwise substantial mintage of 503,660 half dollars for 1863 is actually not that impressive, in terms of the number of survivors today. As a result, proofs of this year assume a greater importance for date collectors. This, of course, is in addition to this coin's collectibility as a No Motto proof type. The fields are bright with deeply reflective mirrors which serve to enliven the smoky golden and cobalt-blue toning over each side. Census: 13 in 65, 8 finer (11/07).

Coin Engraver: Christian Gobrecht

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
