1863 $5 --Rims Filed, Cleaned--ANACS. AU55 Details. The 1863 half eagle has an incredibly low mintage of 2,442 business strikes, and is very rare and underrated in any grade. It makes infrequent auction appearances, and is prohibitively rare above XF (David Akers, 1979; and Walter Breen, 1988). The AU55 Details example offered in this lot exhibits bright yellow-gold surfaces that have undergone a well executed strike. Hairlines are visible on both sides, and portions of the rims have been filed. The latter has affected only a few dentils at about 4 o'clock on the obverse. Otherwise, the dentilation is bold on both sides.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
