<B>1863 25C Quarter Dollar, Judd-336, Pollock-408, R.7, PR65 Red PCGS.</B></I> The obverse features the regular Seated Liberty obverse, but the reverse shows the motto IN GOD WE TRUST added to a scroll above the eagle, of the type adopted in 1866. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. According to the Judd pattern reference, these transitional patterns were "struck at a later date," perhaps in 1865, with resurrected proof dies. Fantasy pieces as bait for numismatic trade? This example offers brilliant, deep cherry-red surfaces on the obverse with a patch of magenta near the rim. The reverse shows flaming sunset-orange with more substantial magenta near the lower half.
