1863 $2.50 Liberty PF63 CAMEO
From a proof only mintage of only thirty coins, with no business strikes all made on March 23rd, 1863 from a single pair of dies. Breen believed there were eighteen survivors, we can count twenty with the repeats at the grading services, but believe 12 or 13 to be the correct number. A fully struck, very choice example of a classic gold rarity. The obverse, a frosty head and bold stars, a bag mark on the neck, a hairline at the eye level is for identification purposes and some minor hairlines in the field. The reverse a semi-bright eagle on a proof field, with few, stray hairlines as well. 1863 is either the rarest or the second rarest of all the Liberty Quarter Eagles, in front of or behind the 1854-S. A rare opportunity for the knowledgeable proof gold collector to own this elusive and seldom offered rarity.
