1863/2 3CS PR67 S Cameo NGC. The final digit in the d
1863/2 3CS PR67 Cameo NGC. The final digit in the date is clearly punched over a previous 2 on this proof-only overdate variety. It is rare that the Mint used an old die for the production of proof coins. There are few proof overdates known, and fewer that are proof-only issues. Others that come to mind are the 1887/6 three cent nickel, the 1879/8 Shield nickel, and the 1893/2 Barber dime. It is our opinion that this variety is unquestionably an overdate, despite the listing in the current Guide Book that calls this piece a "So-Called 3/2." No imagination is necessary to see the overdate features with a low-power magnifier. This Superb Gem proof is fully defined with impressive mirrored fields and full mint frost on the devices. The surfaces are brilliant with no trace of toning. It is truly an exceptional example as indicated by the special NGC designation. Census: 1 in 67 S, 0 finer (10/06).

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
