1863 1C PR65 PCGS. Slanting die lines (as produced) immediately in front of Liberty's eye are diagnostic of the proof 1863 Indian Cent. One of two Gem quality representatives of this scarce Civil War era proof in this sale, this is a remarkably colorful Gem. Mottled pastel-lilac and orange-apricot undertones peer through generally even, honey-brown shadings. Direct angles also reveal modest reflectivity in the fields, but the powerfully impressed devices and virtually pristine features are evident even after the most casual observation. We last offered a PCGS-certified survivor of this issue as lot 5316 in our June 2002 sale of the Dr. Gary Lattimer Collection. Bidding on that coin reached $3,000. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
