<B>1863 1C PR65 Cameo NGC.</B></I> It is thought that no more than 150 1863 proof cents have survived from the original 460 piece mintage. This estimate notwithstanding, approximately 230 or so coins have been certified by NGC and PCGS combined, many of which are undoubtedly resubmissions. Whatever the case, relatively few examples (about 50) have been assigned the Cameo designation. The Gem Cameo presented here is sharply struck on the design features, save for softness in some of the feathertips. All four diamonds are sharp, and both sides display pretty gold-tan color. A couple of trivial reverse flecks prevent an even higher grade.
