1863 $10 AU50 ANACS
1863 $10 --Cleaned--ANACS. AU50 Details. The 1863 ten dollar is reflective of the overall decline in the production of most gold coins in that year. Only 1,248 pieces were produced, plus 30 proofs. The Garrett-Guth Encyclopedia points out that "Auction appearances are few and far between, averaging just over one a year." The finest example known of the 1863, and one of the very few Uncirculated coins extant, is the Harry Bass example. That coin grades MS63 and brought $52,900 when it was sold seven years ago.
This coin shows even highpoint wear. The surfaces are subdued and both sides display even, reddish patina. As expected for a circulated ten dollar piece, each side has distributed minor to moderate marks. This coin represents a rare opportunity to acquire this important member of the No Motto ten dollar series.

Coin Engraver: Christian Gobrecht

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information\)
