1862 Liberty Seated Dollar NGC MS64 Star
In keeping with its generally limited deliveries of silver coins during the Civil War, the Philadelphia Mint struck just 11,540 business strike dollars in 1862. While certainly not the scarcest No Motto issue in this series, the 1862 does show up fairly regularly in circulated grades. Such is not the case, however, when it comes to Mint State coins. Examples in Mint State are rare, and especially so in or above Mint State 64.

This is a wonderfully original representative with a mostly vibrant luster on both sides and sharp devices, including the stars and legends. The luster resonates from the parallel lines imparted by the well-prepared dies. This is midway between later frostiness and early prooflike reflection, and is typical of the few known Mint State 1862 seated dollars. (#6952)
