<B>1862<H10C> MS68 PCGS.</B></I> This is tied with two others as the finest example of the date to be certified by PCGS, although we suspect that there is probably a resubmission factor involved as well. The present example is a remarkable coin with intense lilac, blue, and gold color, deeper in the fields. Both sides have satiny, almost prooflike luster, with excellent cameo-like contrast. The fields on both sides have fine diagonal die lapping or polishing lines, the most prominent starting in the field near Liberty's wrist, and extending up to the left through the first S in STATES. We mention this as the initial examination suggests that this is a scratch, but close inspection reveals that it is a die line transferred to the planchet when this coin was struck.
