1862-Dated Currier & Ives Hand-Colored Print titled, “COM. FARRAGUT'S FLEET, PASSING THE FORTS ON THE MISSISSIPPI, APRIL 24TH 1862.” Fine.
Original Hand-Colored Print with a black outline border around image, sheet measuring about 9” x 13" on period wove print paper. Overall light to moderate tone and light wear from a previous framing. The image shows, in sub-title: “The U.S. Frigate Mississippi destroying the rebel Ram Madassas.” This historic Image was “Published by Currier & Ives, 152 Nassau St. New York. Entered according to act of Congress, in the year 1862 by Currier & Ives, in the Clerk's Office of the District Court of the United States for the Southern District of New York.” Further captions read: “Fort St. Philip. Burning Rafts. Fort Jackson.” A great Civil War Naval Battle scene full of action and also shows a steam powered Ironclad firing its cannon in the foreground.
