1862 Civil War Letter With Ohio Content, Two pages, 5” x 8”, from Jason Case, Circleville, Ohio, March 7, 1862, in ink. An interesting letter from a father with three sons in the Union Army. It reads in part: “I am very closely confined to business - and, besides, have deep anxiety of mind in regard to my three sons, (all I have living,) who are now away from home defending the flag of the Union. My little drummer boy (only 16 years old) is now in Nashville, KY. sic , He has been in Kentuck. ever since our first forces went there. Has been in three battles - shot through his knapsack once. One son at Columbus, Ky. you know that my anxiety is great.” In another passage Case refers to the U.S. Representative from Ohio, John Addison Gurley: “If anything else was needed your speech on Gourley sic - poor Gurley - has made you in this region. It was said at the right time, at the right place and by the right man. I hope you will be left in our district; - but we can hardly hope for that, by the present Union Loving Legislature.” Further research might determine who the recipient of Jason Case's letter may have been. The letter exhibits the typical fold creases, the paper is slightly toned with age, else it is a bright legible letter in very good condition.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
