<B>1862 $3 AU55 NGC.</B></I> An important Civil War issue, the 1862 three had a production of just 5,750 business strikes and 35 proofs. Few pieces have survived through the years, and most were lost during the years of reconstruction when hoarding and melting of gold and silver was probably at its highest.
