1862 25C PR66 NGC. Only 550 proofs were struck in 1862, a large reduction from the prior year's emission of 1,000 pieces. Likely, the dramatic decrease in 1862 proof coinage was due to low demand for the 1861 proofs, many of which were eventually melted as unsold. A lovely specimen striking, this solidly graded Premium Gem is originally toned over smooth, fully brought up features. Dominant olive-copper toning overlays the obverse and rings the reverse periphery. The central reverse, on the other hand, is more lavender-gray in appearance. Mottled undertones are evident at direct angles, as well as appreciable brightness in the fields.
Ex: Philip Kaufman Collection (Heritage, 2/03), lot 6649.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
