1862 25C PR66 NGC. Ex: P. Kaufman. Seated Quarter production at the Philadelphia Mint slackened in 1
1862 25C PR66 NGC. Ex: P. Kaufman. Seated Quarter production at the Philadelphia Mint slackened in 1862--only 932,550 pieces were produced as opposed to 4.8 million coins in 1861. Surprisingly, the 1862 is still widely regarded as a common date by most collectors. While it may be in lower grades, it most certainly is not at high levels of preservation. A lovely specimen striking, this solidly graded Gem is originally toned over smooth, fully brought up features. Dominant olive-copper toning overlays the obverse and rings the reverse periphery. The central reverse, on the other hand, is more lavender-gray in appearance. Mottled undertones are evident at direct angles, as well as appreciable brightness in the fields. NGC Population: 8 in PR66, with none finer (11/02).From the Philip Kaufman Collection. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
