1862, $2 U.S. Note Fr41a PCGS VG8 SERIAL NO. 1!!!
An unbelievable find! Bearing serial number 1, this note is of historical significance and great distinction as one of only two known Serial #1 notes of the first Legal Tender series. That's correct, TWO known serial #1 notes (see below for explanation). A similar note sold for $137,500 in October 2000 per Martin Gerneke Census. Prior to that it was on display at the 1972 ANA Convention, and then again in 1973 at Geneva conventions. The present note is the only other F-41a $2 bill serial number 1 that has surfaced after 144 years. Both are in similar condition, thereby enabling the new owner of this note the possibility of obtaining a similar famous piece without having to pay a six figure price. Heavy circulation no doubt led PCGS Currency to grade the note VG8. Minor roughness at the right and bottom margins, as expected from the grade. Normal soiling from use in circulation. What a wonderful opportunity for the serial number collector!
