1862 1C PR66 NGC. CAC. It has often been noted, by Rick Snow and others, that this is the most common issue as a proof from the 1859-1864 set of copper-nickel Indian cents. From an original mintage of 550 pieces, at least half seem to survive today. Potential bidders should recognize, however, that the number of Premium Gems is small, while the number of even finer examples is minuscule. This boldly impressed piece displays deeply reflective fields and a pleasing array of variegated colors that includes orange, peach, gold, and chartreuse. Census: 29 in 66, 5 finer (1/08).

Coin Engraver: James B.
