1862 1C PR66 NGC. We do not know exactly how many proof Indian Cents emerged from the presses at the Philadelphia Mint in 1862, but a total of 550 coins seems to be a widely accepted minimum. With at least half of the original mintage believed extant, this issue is the most easily obtainable proof Indian Cent in the 1859-1864 copper-nickel series. We caution bidders, however, that the 1862 is not all common in the finer grades, and NGC reports a mere 31 coins in PR66 and six finer (7/02). With shimmering fields and fully brought up devices, the present Gem makes a lasting impression. Delicate champagne-apricot undertones shimmer beneath dominant medium tan color. The smooth, essentially blemish-free surfaces are fully deserving of the premium quality Gem designation. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
