1862 1C MS66 PCGS. This is a simply splendid Premium Gem example from the first year of the copper-nickel (also called the Oak Wreath With Shield) type of Indian cent. Well struck, lustrous, and virtually unmarked, with pleasing golden-tan coloration. According to A Guide Book of United States Type Coins (2005): "For reasons that are not clear today, Mint Director James Ross Snowden found the laurel wreath reverse of the 1859 cent to be unsatisfactory and directed that patterns be made for a new style. In 1860, this new style became the standard." Population: 49 in 66, 7 finer (6/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
