Rare Pair of historic Civil War Union Recruiting Letters, includes:

1. July 29, 1862-Dated, “PATRIOTS OF NEW-YORK!” 1 page, measuring 5” x 8”, Octavo, New York, and reads in part: “...OUR COUNTRY is in danger - our Government in peril! We are in the darkest hour of its history since our Revolutionary Fathers nobly fought for and achieved independence...” much More!

With an unsigned Contemporary Handwritten Letter on its blank verso discussing the Union Draft, which reads, in part: “They Talk of draft after the 18th if Volunteers don’t come in, But they will come in some, and grace will be given...”.

2. March 8, 1864-Dated, “FILL UP THE OLD REGIMENTS!” 1 page, measuring Octavo, Boston, stating that “the sum of Ten Dollars extra premium will be paid to any person bringing an accepted recruit to fill up “the Massachusetts Old Infantry Regiments of the 9th and 2d Army Corps, commanded by Major General BURNSIDE and HANCOCK.” With its Integral Postally Used Cover, being mailed with postally tied 1861 2¢ Andrew Jackson “Blackjack” U.S. Stamp, and round Postmark of March 11, 1864, from Boston to “Secectmen Town of N. Bridgewater (Mass.), in nice condition. (2 items).
