2pp. Union soldier ALS. Datelined 13 October 1861, letter reads in part: ''Friend Albert I scribbled a letter to you yesterday but had to send it in haste. I have come off from picket…We have orders to leave this camp tomorrow. We take the cars but dont know ecsactly whare we go. Rumor is to Cumberland but the destination may be elsewhare. I like soldering first rate but am eager to get in battle. I fear this war may close be fore we have our chance at the rebs. So far we drill and drill and drill but hant set eyes on the rebbel army yet. You wanted to know my opinion on southern girls. I have none at present. We are kept in camp and hant had the oppertunity to meet any southern girls directly. Have you seen Lydia or Mary. I have had but one letter from Lydie and none from Mary…I think they have forgotten me…If you see Lydie tell her I am disappointed that her resolve to write me has failed her so soon. Tell all my friends to write me the news of home…your friend Tomy.'' Letter measures 6'' x 7.75'' and runs 2pp. Light toning and fading to ink, otherwise very good condition.
