1861 S$1 PR66 Cameo NGC. The glassy, jet-black fields
1861 S$1 PR66 Cameo NGC. The glassy, jet-black fields display illimitable depths of mirrored reflectivity, and the beautifully struck alabaster-white devices are pristine and heavily frosted. Close examination of the obverse and reverse surfaces, with the aid of a magnifier, fails to reveal even the slightest distraction. Bowers (1993) relates that 1,000 pieces were struck, but that only 350 were apparently sold, with the remainder eventually being melted. He also characterizes the 1861 issue as the rarest proof Seated dollar from the early 1860s. This impressive Premium Gem is also the single finest-graded specimen from either of the major services, making it an especially desirable item for the specialist or the savvy investor. Census: 1 in 66 Cameo, 0 finer (4/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
