1861 S$1 MS64 PCGS. Although the Mint Act of February
1861 S$1 MS64 PCGS. Although the Mint Act of February 21, 1853 reduced the weight of the half dime, dime, quarter, and half dollar, the silver dollar's weight was unchanged, which made it a target for bullion dealers. So many dollars of this issue found the melting pot that the 1861 is very scarce as a business strike; in fact, proofs appear at auction more often than XF or AU coins. Mint State pieces are also seldom seen. This piece is well-defined throughout with even, satiny luster. The golden-gray patina that covers the coin has traces of rose and blue. Population: 22 in 64, 6 finer (1/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
