<B>1861 Letter With Secession and Slavery Content.</B></I> From A. T. Hileman, four pages, 5 x 8, Hawkins Georgia? , June 2, 1861, in ink, to his brother. Hileman writes to his brother to request his help on building a house. He speaks of forgoing his planting of tobacco so as to have time to build a house. He mentions that his corn and clover crops are doing well and that prices are strong his crops. In the midst of the letter he mentions <I>Our secession election is next Saturday. There is great confusion among the people. The negroes is triing sic to murder occasionally Thomas Coke house was tried sic to be broke open two or three weeks back it was suppressed the paterole sic saved the old folks and house that happened on the grove.
