1861 50C Scott Token MS63 PCGS. Several years aft
1861<50C> Scott Token MS63 PCGS. Several years after discovery of the original CSA Half Dollar dies, Scott prepared a special obverse die for restrikes with the inscription 4 ORIGINALS STRUCK BY ORDER OF C.S.A. IN NEW ORLEANS 1861 around the upper periphery and in the center. Below the date, an arch of seven stars precedes the inscriptions REV. SAME AS U.S. and, in parentheses, FROM ORIGINAL DIE: SCOTT. Scott combined this obverse die with the original reverse die and struck 500 tokens, which he sold in October, 1879 for 50 cents each. These tokens were struck in a white metal that Breen (1988) asserts is probably tin. This piece exhibits some streaky, milky color on each side with much brightness still remaining around the devices.
