1861 50C PR67 NGC. This coin was not produced in an era that was conducive to the survivability of attractive, high grade proof coinage. Consider first and foremost the fact that not all proof 1861 Half Dollars had found buyers by the dawn of the following year. Furthermore, many of those coins that had succeeded in leaving the Mint were lost to future generations of numismatists during the chaos of the War Between the States. This is the first Superb Gem representative of this issue that we have offered, and we have no record of any other major auction house having handled a proof 1861 Half whose technical quality could match or surpass that of this coin. Rich antique-copper toning lightens a little toward the centers. While direct light angles reveal target-like, rainbow colored undertones, there is no manner in which one could look at this coin that would result in anything less than awe-inspiring eye appeal. Fully reflective in finish with crisp devices and essentially pristine surfaces. Population: 1 in 67, there are none finer (2/03).From the Philip Kaufman Collection. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
