<B>1861 $2 1/2 Clark, Gruber & Co. Quarter Eagle Copper Dies Trial PR64 Red and Brown PCGS.</B></I> K-9, High R.7. Lovely orange, ruby-red, and gunmetal-blue toning enrich this pleasing near-Gem. The fields are moderately mirrored and are void of remotely mentionable marks. The strike is exquisite, unlike the issued gold two and a half dollar pieces, which are typically soft in the centers. Each side has a partial knife rim, from 9 to 2 o'clock on the obverse and from 12 to 6 o'clock on the reverse. K-9 is from the same dies as the regular issue gold pieces, K-5a. As of (10/06), PCGS has certified two dies trial pieces as proof and an additional seven dies trial pieces as Mint State.
