1861<1C> MS67 PCGS. Ex: Ally Collection. While this issue's original mintage of 10.1 million pieces may not seem small in an absolute sense, it is the lowest in the business strike copper-nickel Indian Cents series. Snow (1992) states that "eye appeal is the key" when searching for a suitable representative of the 1861. A Condition Census Superb Gem, this tan tinged survivor is silky smooth from rim to rim with virtually no carbon flecks to report. The strike is nearly complete throughout, and the fully lustrous surfaces provide modest, yet appreciable cartwheel effects as the coin rotates under the light. Combined NGC and PCGS Population: 10 in 67, there is only one finer (11/05).
From The Joshua and Ally Walsh Collection of United States Cents.
