This is a $1000 bank note from the Confederate States of America, dated May 28, 1861, which was at the beginning of the Civil War. It features the portraits of John C. Calhoun at left, and Andrew Jackson at the right. Its condition is very good, and shows age toning. This note comes mounted on ivory matte board, in a gold painted wood frame measuring 5 3/4" x 9 1/4".
This was the highest denomination ever issued by the Confederacy, and it is one of the most highly collectible pieces of Confederate currency.*This note has not been examined outside the frame. It comes from the Manno estate, and was purchased in Louisiana 35 years ago from a seller who presented it as authentic.
