This Charles Field Haviland (CFH) Limoge dresser dish is unusual and lovely! It has a circle design with tabs for easy pickup and moving. It is handpainted and signed by the artist.<p>

Charles Field Haviland left America in 1852 to work for his uncle David in the Limoges region of France. By 1859 he started a small decorating studio with his uncle Richard to decorate Alluaud porcelains to export to America. In 1865, with his father, Robert, and his brother, he rented a porcelain manufacturing company. By 1870 they added a decorating studio, and CFH started Charles Field Haviland & Cie, to produce wares for export. In 1876 CFH took over the old Alluaud factory in Faubourg des Casseaux, Limoges. The CHF decorating mark continued to be used after he retired in 1881, but became the CFM/GDM porcelain mark, reflecting new ownershop.<p>

This dresser dish has a blue and pink morning glory design. Among the curling vines, they bloom, with a bee hovering above! The tabs in the circle are embossed with fleur de lis. There is gold on the edges, and the sides are dimpled. Emma E. Cole is the artist, and her signature in brown occurs on the underside of a leaf on the left side of the dish. The dish is 5 1/2 inches in diameter with 1-inch sides. The bottom is 4 1/2 inches. The bottom is marked with a square in black ink with the words: "C.F.H./LIMOGES" and some lettering which skips and eludes being made out. It may be in French.
