A strike-through near obverse star 12 is of mint origin. The 1860-S remains rare in Mint State despite shipwreck hoards. Only a single Mint State 1860-S was recovered from the <I>S.S. Brother Jonathan,</B></I> and only three Mint State coins emerged from the <I>S.S. Republic</B></I>.
