<B>1860 S$1 PR64 PCGS.</B></I> Although the Mint produced an abnormally large number--1,330 coins--of the proof 1860 Seated dollar issue, only 527 coins were sold, and the remainder of the coins were eventually melted. Notwithstanding, the standard references still list the larger mintage figure. The combined NGC and PCGS population data are consistent with the lower figure, showing a bit more than 300 proofs certified, a total that likely includes a resubmission factor of 50% or more. This lustrous near-Gem proof offers iridescent blue and amber-pink toning in the fields, with the contrasting devices a more consistent silver-gray. A sharply struck and thoroughly pleasing example!
