1860 S$1 MS65 NGC. Despite the sizeable mintage of 217,600 pieces in this pre-Civil War year in Philadelphia, the 1860 issue is seldom found in either circulated grades or Mint State. It is likely that most examples were melted, either domestically or abroad, in one of the countless meltings that have occurred (the first after this coin's issue beginning only the following year, when the onslaught of the Civil War drove even minor coinage from circulation by 1862 and artificially hiked the price of silver for a few years). This specimen is mostly brilliant, with just the slightest tinge of gold noted near the rims on each side. The surfaces are expectedly appealing and near-flawless. Brilliant luster and bold strike are pluses.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
