1860 S$1 MS64 NGC. For the second year in a row,
1860<S$1> MS64 NGC. For the second year in a row, the Philadelphia Mint produced a sizeable number (217,600 pieces) of Silver Dollars in 1860. This issue is seldom encountered in either circulated or Mint State grades, but survivors are not as elusive as their 1859 counterparts. An obviously important coin, the surfaces are deeply toned with steel-gray patina being accented with rose-golden hues on each side. Both sides are boldly impressed, although the luster is a trifle too subdued to warrant a full Gem grade. The abrasions are mostly small and well scattered, although several reeding marks in the upper reverse field are noted. Population: 17 in 64, 5 finer (4/05).
