1860-O $10 AU55 NGC. After an uninterrupted 20-year run of O-mint gold eagles, production of the denomination at the New Orleans facility was discontinued upon the outbreak of the Civil War. It would not be resumed until the Mint was reopened in 1879. Just 11,100 pieces were struck in 1860, with survivors being scarce not only in the absolute sense, but conditionally as well. Only a handful of Uncirculated pieces are known. Offered here is an uncommonly flashy and boldly struck example that, while moderately abraded, boasts liberal amounts of prooflike luster in the more protected areas. Much above-average for this challenging New Orleans ten. Census: 23 in 55, 26 finer (11/06).

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
