hallmarked silver, Sheffield 1860.

A unique silver drinking tankard relating to the strike and lockout of 1860 at the Knockmahon Mine on the Copper Coast in County Waterford. With a beautiful and decorative inscription "Presented to Charles H. Bingham Esq.,.... as a mark of their respect and esteem for his great ability, decision of character and gentlemanly deportment in meeting every difficulty during the trying circumstances of the late strike amongst the miners at Knockmahon Sept. 1st 1860". An interesting piece of social, mining, industrial relations, Waterford and Irish history.
