1860 Henry rifle, .44 rimfire caliber, with conversion to King’s type improvement with loading gate installed. US martially inspected, serial #3555. Refer The First Winchester by John E. Parsons, page 48, where this exact rifle is illustrated. The rifle shows CGC inspection on right of barrel breech with HH inspector initial just beneath on frame and breech. The right side of the frame and sideplates have been cut out and relieved, and a spring type loading gate installed, similar to 1866 rifle. The loading gate is cut almost exactly similar to early 1866 rifles as to size and angle and is theorized to be an early King’s improvement conversion. The barrel shows a brown patina finish with strong traces of blue mixed in, some erosion and pinprick pitting, the rear sight dovetail has been filled and a v-not rear sight has been moved 4” forward down the barrel for a near-sighted man. The stock is of select quality and show a burl wood grain The sling swivel stud has been faced down, and the stock refinished and is slightly undersized against the metal.
