1860 Henry rifle, .44 caliber rimfire, period inscribed, GW Coffman, Co. B, 6th Rt W. VA. Veteran Volunteer Cavl. on left side of receiver. Right side W. Rollins, Co. B, 6th Rt, W. VA Cavl. The gun is serial #7179 and shows a lightly cleaned to grey patina finish on the barrel starting to color back. Some scattered light to slightly heavy pitting. The heavy pitting occurring on the forward 3” of the muzzle and around the sight and barrel address area. The frame shows a deep patina, some prying and loosening on the sideplates during period of use. The stock is associated from another rifle and is undersized and shows an old hand-made buttplate that is not Henry type but very old. It is our opinion this is a period-of-use-replaced stock that has been with the rifle all its life and is matching in condition, about fair to good. The action is good, the bore is slightly rough, and the rifle has seen use and carry during the Civil War. A very interesting rifle which deserves warrants further research as to the identity of the two individuals whose names are period inscribed. Est: $15,000 - $30,000
