1860 H10C Transitional MS65 NGC. Judd-267, Pollock-315
1860 H10C Transitional MS65 NGC. Judd-267, Pollock-315, R.4. These so-called transitional half dimes were struck on the orders of Mint Director James Ross Snowden. They were allegedly used to trade with local Philadelphia collectors for pieces missing from the National Collection. These are "coins without a country," as they lack any mention of the United States, muling the old Stars obverse with the new Legend reverse. All are business strikes from a reported production run of 100 pieces, although there is no indication that any of the the coins ever entered circulation. This lovely piece has deep russet, gold, plum, and navy-blue toning. 14 in 65, 11 finer (3/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
