<B>1860-D $5 Medium D MS60 NGC.</B></I> Variety 38-FF, the only known Medium D variety. Two similar quality MS60 grade pieces in the present sale provide the collector with an excellent bidding opportunity and a choice of pieces, an unusual circumstance. This satiny Mint State piece has brilliant light gold color with a few faint traces of iridescent toning. Faint hairlines on each side are typical, and clearly the grade limiting factor for this coin. Like most examples, this piece is mostly sharp with fine detail on both sides, with only slight weakness on the eagle's neck.
