1860 Colt Army revolver, .44 caliber percussion, nickel plated, ivory grips, inscribed to “W.F.C. the scout”. Serial #168657. The pistol shows an original to the 19th century plated nickel finish of which approx. 75-85% remains. Some peeling and losses, and areas where the finish has lifted are going to a grey to dark patina with some erosion and pinprick pitting just starting, and uncleaned. The cylinder shows nearly all of the scene with visible engagement dates. There is some wear at the muzzle from holster carry, the grips are good to very good, beginning to yellow. The army is a true civilian with no cutouts either in frame or butt. The action is good, the bore is very good. A documenting appraisal by R. L. Wilson is includ which traces the provenance from W. F. Cody to Johnny Baker to S. R. Randolph for display at Randolph’s museum on Lookout Mountain, Colorado, where it was displayed and purchased by old-time dealer and collector James Aplan of South Dakota. Mr. Wilson states that the nickel plating and ivory grips was done during the period, probably in New York City by one of Colt’s allies. Wilson’s letter further chronicles the history of the Wild West Shows, Buffalo Bill, Johnny Baker his
