<B>1860 $3 MS64 NGC.</B></I> A sharply struck and Choice Mint State example with satiny yellow surfaces and full mint brilliance. This is a scarce date from a mintage of just 7,036 coins. Perhaps just a few hundred of those pieces still exist, with the total population easily below 1,000 coins, and few of them are in Mint State grades. Dave Bowers estimates the total population of Mint State coins at 45 to 60 pieces in all grades. Choice Mint State pieces such as this coin are highly elusive, and finer Gem specimens are extremely rare.
