1860 $3 MS63 NGC. All 7,036 Philadelphia Mint Three Dollar gold pieces struck in 1860 were delivered with a single die pair on January 31 of that year. This issue is a noteworthy rarity in Mint State, and even worn coins are few and far between. Our offerings of Select quality survivors have been scant with just three example appearing in our Signature Sales from 1990 to date. The last of these coins, certified by PCGS, realized $5,290 as lot 7593 in our 1998 Portland ANA Signature Sale. The present example displays rich, fully original color in reddish-gold shades. The often seen die striations (an as struck feature) are only really evident near the right reverse border, and even in that area they are rather indistinct. Some wispy obverse abrasions are all that seem to bar this frosty, sharply struck example from an even higher grade. Population: 7 in 63, 6 finer (7/02). Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
