1860 $3 MS62 PCGS. Lustrous light yellow-gold with fro
1860<$3> MS62 PCGS. Lustrous light yellow-gold with frosty surfaces and minor grade-consistent abrasions. Despite a modest number of coins certified by PCGS and NGC, this is an important issue that is seldom seen in Mint State grades, and it has been considered a rarity almost since that date of issue. By 1862 or 1863, examples of this date were not seen in commerce, and were almost certainly hoarded by hard money advocates. Bowers suggested that most of these (there were 7,036 coins minted) probably circulated on the West Coast, although we wonder how a large number of these coins found there way to the Rocky Mountains and the Pacific states. Population: 25 in 62, 23 finer (7/06).
