The surfaces on this piece are completely unaffected by toning or mellowing to any degree. The coin retains full, bright, "white" coloration that is the native color of the copper-nickel alloy used from 1856 through 1864. Very few pieces retain this original "whiteness" and it is very desirable when located. The fields are deeply mirrored and the devices show generous amounts of mint frost which give the coin a sharp two-toned contrast. Essentially flawless, strong magnification is required to locate the few flecks of carbon that are scattered over each side. From the "Newmismatist" Collection; the All-Time #1 PCGS Registry Set.
