1860 1C MS67 PCGS
1860 1C MS67 PCGS. Type of 1860. Rounded Bust. This is the usually encountered design type for the year, and the variant normally used for type purposes. In Rick Snow's 1859-1869 Attribution Guide he gives sage advice about collecting on page 31:
"When collecting an Indian Cent collection in any grade it is worthwhile to take your time and acquire really attractive coins. On the commoner dates this advice is easily overlooked in favor of just plugging a hole in an album as quickly as possible. If you collect with a little patience and an eye for quality, regardless of the grade, you'll eventually find a real pleasing example worthy of your collection."
This piece is certainly worthy of the collector who has heeded Snow's advice to take time and acquire really attractive coins. This coin is unsurpassed for an 1860 in our experience. The surfaces are smooth and satiny with light, white-golden color. Each side is virtually mark-free as well as carbon-free. An interesting aspect of this particular piece is that it appears to have been struck from misaligned dies, with the right portion of each side displaying some weakness while the left parts are razor-sharp. Only 10 other pieces have been so graded by PCGS and NGC combined and none are finer (10/07).

Coin Engraver: James B.
